Thomas Newman   (1640 - 1713)

Thomas was born in Shipley , Sussex, in 1640.  He first married Mary Longelee there 6 July 1665.  They had a son, John (1667), and possibly also a daughter, Mary (1666), both of whom died in infancy.  Mary died in 1667 and was buried 26 July in Shipley.

Mary Hunt   (         - 1705)

They were married on 5 December 1667 in Shipley.  Mary died there in 1705 and was buried 21 June. Thomas died there in 1713 and was buried 24 June.

Their children were baptised in Shipley:

John Newman was baptised 21 June 1667.

Thomas Newman   (1668 - 1744)

Thomas was baptised 9 October 1668 in Shipley. He became a tailor.

Anne Davis   (         - 1760).

They were married in Shipley 10 April 1711.  John was buried 12 April 1744, Ann 8 May 1760, both in Shipley.

Their children were all baptised in Shipley:

Sarah Newman was baptised 23 July 1711.  She married William Randall 2 March 1731 in Shipley.  Their children, all baptised there, were Edward (1732), Ann (1734), Sarah (1736), William (1739), Mary (1743), Elizabeth (1746) and Thomas (1749).

Thomas Newman was baptised 18 November 1714.  He married Betty Serjeant 10 June 1742 in Itchingfield.  Their children were Sarah (1756) and Thomas (1758).

John Newman was baptised 4 March 1717.  See next

James Newman was baptised February 1720.

Ann Newman was baptised 20 May 1730. She married John Mansbridge 12 October 1756 in Shipley.  Their chlidren were Mary (1757), James (1759), Ann (1761), John (1763) and Thomas (1765).   John and Ann both died in1807.
OR John Newman   (1673 - 1743)

John was baptised 25 March 1673 in Shipley.

Timothea Fivens   (1674 - 1766).

Her parents were Thomas Fivens (b. 1640) and Mary Mills.

They were married 9 July 1696 in Shipley, and their children were all baptised there:

William Newman was born in 1699.

Bettie Newman was born in 1703.

Mary Newman was born in 1707.  She died in 1743 and was buried in Shipley 25 April.

John Newman   (1717 - 176?)

John was baptised in Shipley in 1717, either 4 March or 1 November (see above).

Mary Streater   (1719 - 1784)

Mary was baptised in Shipley 3 February 1719.

They were married in Shipley 27 October 1747, when John was 30 and Mary was 28.  John may have been buried in Shipley 24 January 1763, the burial register showing that he was a wheelwright, or 21 March 1766, also in Shipley.  Mary died there aged 65, and was buried 23 March 1784.

Their children were all baptised in Shipley:

James Newman Streater was baptised 17 August 1746.  The baptism register only recorded his mother's name and that he was baseborn.

Mary Newman *** was baptised 31 July 1748.  She married Richard Laker in Shipley 27 April 1767.  Their children were Sarah (1768), Richard (1771) ***, William (1779) ***, Elizabeth (1782), John (1785), Edward (1788) and Hannah (1891).  Richard died aged 82 in 1818 and was buried in Shipley 20 January.  Mary died there aged 82 in 1830 and was buried 23 October.

Richard Newman *** was baptised 31 August 1750.  He married Sarah Philpott in Shipley 2 November 1775. Their children were William (1776) ***, Ann (1779, died in infancy), Hannah (1780, died in infancy), Elizabeth (1783), John (1784), Sarah (1787) and Edward (1789) ***.  Richard died aged 93 years and was buried in Shipley, 10 August 1843.

Sarah Newman *** was baptised 2 February 1752.  She married Michael Martin ***.

Jude Newman was baptised 17 February 1754.  She married James Goacher in Itchingfield, Sussex, 22 February 1778.  They had at least one child, James (1779).
