James Christie ***   (c.1808 - 1857)

James was born in Dundee about 1808.  He was a flax dresser, planer and ship's carpenter.  His mother was Ann Rea.

Margaret Shepherd   (c.1808 - 1868)

Margaret was born in Dundee about 1809.

They were married in Dundee 13 June 1828.  In 1841 they were living at Parnell Street West Side, Dundee.  In 1851 the address was 6 Church Street.

James and Margaret, and presumably some of the younger members of their family, emigrated to Australia in search of gold about 1854.  With them were Margaret's cousins, Patrick, Robert, James and Isabel and their families.   The addresses of some of the family were Geelong, 'in the goldfields near Ballarat, Italian Gully', Back Creek and Linton Diggings, all in the state of Victoria.   Patrick later moved to Dunedin, where gold had been discovered at Gabriel's Gully in 1864.  James died at Greater Geelong City 3 Mar 1857, aged 49. Margaret died in 1868.

Their children were all born in Dundee:

Agnes Shepherd Christie was baptised 24 May 1829.

Thomas Shepherd Christie was baptised 27 March 1831.  He married Helen Andrews.  Their children were Gordon (c.1855), Christina (c.1857), James (c.1859) and William (1861).

William Mill Christie was baptised 30 December 1832.

Ann Rea Christie *** was baptised 11 March 1835.  She married James Stewart ***.

Isabella Shepherd Christie *** was baptised 21 March 1835.  She married George Low, a tailor, in Dundee 10 July 1853.   Their children, all born in Montrose, were David (c.1855), Catherine and George (1856), James (1858), Chrarles (1859), Betsy Halley (1861)

James Christie was baptised 14 May 1837.  He married Margaret Imrie 22 April 1869 and emigrated to Australia.

Miller Christie was baptised 26 May 1839.

Robert Lesslie Christie was baptised 19 September 1841.

Jessie Christie was baptised 12 August 1843.

Jean Christie was baptised 3 May 1849.
